The challenge
Emerging’s existing website had various issues which were preventing the team from being able to easily edit their content or run CMS and plugin updates.
The user journey for potential customers to make purchases or find content was problematic.
The design wasn’t a true representation of the business which supplies exclusive pro audio equipment to professional musicians and studios.
The solution
Red Sentence were tasked with designing and developing a new website for Emerging which showcased the range of products they supply and the people which use them, whilst providing an easy process for customers to place orders.
The site also required the admin area be rebuilt. With an over reliance on a clunky theme and a high number of plugins, the site had developed a range of glitches and issues.
The site’s performance was poor. We rebuilt a custom theme from scratch using a lightweight framework and clean semantic code. Plugins were only used where necessary, we ran a detailed audit of existing plugins to see if they were necessary, or if they could be replaced with some simple code.
The homepage needed to be flexible. With regular product updates or event news, Emerging wanted to be able to push updates to the homepage whilst having good control over how things looked.
We made use of WordPress’ Gutenberg Editor to create some customised pre-styled blocks which could easily be added, modified and used.
The product pages in some instances needed to display a lot of information – for example videos, manual downloads, user stories and specifications. We created a modular feature for products which made adding such sections easy. They could be reordered via drag and drop, giving the team great control over how these pages looked.
